A video named "My Culture is NOT a Costume" was released from the youtube channel 'Teen Vogue'. The channel asked six women about Halloween costumes that co-opt their culture. After speaking about their culture, explaining who they are and what their clothing represents. Halloween Costumes that 'corresponds' with their culture were then brought out for them to conduct what they think about, overall they all felt that the costumes were offensive and stereotypical towards their Culture, as it imitates their Culture based on their beliefs on them.
Personally, I have never found or viewed Halloween offensive, probably because I found it a fun event where you and friends can dress up into whatever you want for a day and I believe that many people can correlate to this. A night of fun, trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, dressing up, and etc. Most people cannot be blamed for as they do not realize that what they could be wearing is offensive towards some Cultures, as we are not taught about the difference between costumes and traditional clothing. To hopefully prevent people from wearing these such costumes, is by teaching them at a young age that Culture has a big meaning in everyone's life, it's clothing, its beliefs, and its lifestyle should be taken seriously. We must take a close look at what we wear and how we act because some people could find it imitating and offensive towards their Culture.
